Easy Way To Install IE 6 in Linux

Why would you want to even install Internet Explorer 6 in Linux? Well simple, if you visit a website that is designed specifically for Internet Explorer or if you are a web developer and want to make sure your web page renders correctly in IE t( 50/50 chance these days) then you will want to install IE on your Linux box. The guys at IE 4 for Linux have come up with a nifty script that installs Internet Explorer 6. You first need to have cabextract and Wine installed on your Linux box. Adobe Flash Player 9 comes installed automatically and you can install Shockwave & Acrobat plugins yourself. Unfortunately Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Sun Java Runtime 5, Windows Update and Quicktime plugins do not work for IE 6 on Linux, but you can just use Firefox for that. MS Messenger for Mac 6.0

Microsoft has released Microsoft Messenger for Mac version 6.0 which can be downloaded here.
This is a Universal Binary version which can run off the PwerPC or Intel Chips and is in fact the first Mircrosoft product made in Universal Binary format. Some new features of Microsoft Messenger for Mac version 6.0 are :
* Chat with Yahoo! Messenger contacts
* Add a status message that your personal contacts can see
* Share what you are listening to in iTunes with your personal contacts
* Create, send, and receive custom emoticons with personal contacts
* Send and receive custom animated emoticons with personal contacts
* Search for conversation histories using Spotlight
* Check the spelling in your instant messages
Video Conferencing and Voice Chat is non-existent in this version, but besides that the program seems to work fairly well. File transfers, Yahoo contacts are integrated nicely in to Messenger for Mac. Personally I would use Adium (allows you to use Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, AIM, ICQ all in one program), but if you use MSN Messenger exclusively then this may be a good choice. Foobar2000 0.9.4

Foobar2000 has released a new version, 0.94, of the awesome music player software for Windows. The program may be the ugliest (in default view at least) music player around but that is kind of the point with Foobar2000. The program was designed to be lightweight and able to play these formats “out of the box” - MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, Musepack, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC / Ogg FLAC, Speex, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, AU, SND, CDDA, WMA, all with the customizability to make audiophiles happy. Foobar200 is capable of transcoding your music collection from Lossless (FLAC/APE) to Lossy for your iPod (MP3/AAC) with ease. You can also easily use the programs advanced tagging capabilities to sort of the idtags of your music collection. Program can be downloaded here.

Mozilla has just released Release Candidate 1 for their latest & greatest web browser, Firefox 2.0. I love companies that releases their software on all three major computing platforms (Windows, OS X, Linux) and Firefox is a great example of this. Plot Synopsis : “The story is set on the campus of a university in Tokyo. Students from the literature department’s ‘film workshop’ are about to start shooting their movie ‘The Bored Murderer’, part of their course curriculum. Everyone is in a rush to prepare for the shoot, but the lead actor drops out suddenly, and the team is forced to search for a replacement at the last minute. Matsukawa, the director, and Hisada, the first assistant, and other members of the team have their own personal problems with life and love, and the story unfolds ‘just like in the movies’. Matsukawa’s shallow attitude to his girlfriend, Yukari, and the behavior of the mysterious Ikeda, who is to play the lead role of the schoolboy murderer, add to the confusion of the whole situation. As for the one-time director, now lecturer, professor Nakajo, he is also harboring desires for the female student Rei, whilst hiding behind his calm, supportive exterior. Yahoo! Dell Notebook on fire again….

Another Dell laptop caught fire, this time at the 8 story 1MC tower at Yahoo!’s Santa Clara campus. Hundreds of employees at Yahoo! did have to evacuate their building for about 45 minutes. The notebook in question seemed to have been a Dell Inspiron. These laptops are are catching on fire at a pretty astounding rate. The problem with the notebooks is because of faulty lithium-ion batteries manufactured by Sony. Recently Dell has had a massive recall of these batteries. For more information on the Dell battery recall, read here. Apple also had to recall some of their batteries manufactured by Sony as well. Read here for more information on their recall. If that wasn’t enough Panasonic and Hewlett-Packard have announced similar recalls. So far Quanta & Korean Airlines have banned the use of Dell or Apple notebooks on their airplanes. Furthermore Virgin Airlines has requested owners of those notebooks to remove the batteries prior to boarding their airplanes.

Linux kernel 2.6.18 officially released

The latest stable version of the Linux Kernel (2.6.18) has been released and is available for download here. This release should be of interest to users of Intel Mac computers that wants to install Linux. Sound for the Apple Mac Mini, Macbook Pro touchpad support, new driver to control the brightness of an Apple Cinema Display over USB, imacfb driver for Intel-based Macintosh machines, Add security class for appletalk sockets so that they can be distinguished in SELinux policy. Theres also support for the Mac G5 iSight. Other major fixes and updates effects USB wifi adapters, improvements for nVidia AM2 motherboards and Intel 965 chipsets. Hopefully Edgy Eft, Fedora Core 6 and Suse 10.2 will include the new kernel.

Mojave 3 Tour Dates

Mojave 3 will be embarking on a full tour of the U.S. & Canada starting at the end of September and even making a stop in Japan to play at Mt. Fuji. The tour is in support of their brilliant new album Puzzles Like You. Their new album is bit more uptempo and “poppy” than their previous works and it is just as good as say Out Of Tune (my previous favorite album by the band), but in a more west coast surf songs meets country music kind of way.
