Plot Synopsis : Su-Mi leaves the psychiatric hospital and arrives at her father’s house with her younger sister Su-yeon. They are met by their father, who seems strangely detached, and their stepmother, who seems to dislike Su-Mi and enjoys bullying her younger sister. While Su-Mi tries to stay protective of her younger sister, strange things start to occur in their house. It is now up to Su-Mi to try to figure out whether their house is haunted or if their stepmother is behind the strange occurrences or if this is a recurrence of her own psychological problems.

Movie Review : Stylistically not many movies can top A Tale Of Two Sisters. The cinematography and the design of the house is obscenely alluring. Although A Tale Of Two Sisters is a horror film (with a handful of scenes that will make you jump out of your seat) the movie is a psychological thriller at its heart. You will be in suspense throughout the film because you are not sure what the hell is happening. Is the house haunted? Is the stepmother crazy? Is the sisters delusional? Is the father an android? Once the second major twist is revealed things finally start to make sense and by the last shocking scene you learn what the cause of all the mystery is. One of the more memorable scenes seems to have been paying an homage to Takashi Miike’s “Audition,” with a bloody sack being dragged down the hall straight out of the prior mentioned film. Two critiques of the film would be that it felt a little long and the script wasn’t as strong as the visuals. But, once the surprises start happening everything starts to payoff. The DVD is a wonderful 2 disc set that has more bonus material than any fan can possibly wish for (deleted scenes, making of a tale of two sisters, and interviews). Movie is recommended for one of those late night, all the lights off in the house, film sessions. Boo!

A Tale of Two Sisters is being remade in the U.S., with a 2008 release date. Elizabeth Banks & Emily Browning are playing the sisters roles. Taking a look at some movie stills from the remake I feel a little bit like the Soo-mi (Su-jeong Lim) character at the end of Tale of Two Sisters :)
