Hero set to open in Japan Sept. 8th

A movie with lofty goals is set to open in Japan on September 8th, 2007. The title of the film is “Hero” and its set to play on 461 screens across Japan – the most ever for any film in that country. The movie itself is a continuation of the popular Japanese show of the same name that ruled the airwaves back in 2001. Every episode of the original Hero television garnered ratings in excess of 30% – the highest ever for Fuji television. As you can tell there’s already a lot of “biggest” and “ever” tossed around.
The film also stars one of the more popular figures in Japan today, Kimura Takuya (Love and Honor), as a country bumpkin prosecutor named Kohei Kuryu that now works in the big metropolis of Tokyo. The film also brings back most of the cast members from the television show reprising their respective roles. Some of the more notable names would be Takako Matsu (April Story, The Hidden Blade, The Wow-Choten Hotel) and Hiroshi Abe (Survival Style +5, Bubble Fiction). This time around Kuryu works on an apparently open and shut case involving a small-time teenage felon. Intrigue starts to develop when the teenage felon walks into court backed by one of the most formidable defense attorneys in the country. With the outlook of Kuryu’s case now looking bleak Kuryu must quickly search into the reasons why such a formidable attorney would represent a low level street kid. With the help of his colorful staff, Kuryu uncovers more mysteries and eventually travels to Pusan, Korea to find the answers. There Kuryu receives the help of a South Korean detective played by none other than Byung-hun Lee (JSA/Bittersweet Life/The Good The Bad and The Weird).
Sounds interesting doesn’t it? This won’t be the last that Kimura Takuya and Byung-hun Lee collaborates together as well. They are both slated to appear in the upcoming Hollywood film “I Come with the Rain” starring Josh Harnett.

Dong : If you’re asking about “I Come With The Rain” that should get a wide distribution in the states and elsewhere. Especially considering its international cast.
“Hero” will at least get a wide release in Asia. After its premiere in Japan on September 8th, the film will then premiere in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore on October 18th. The film then opens in Korea on October 25 on an estimated 250 screens, the most ever for Japanese film there (to put that in context D-War was recently shown on 689 screens there – the most ever to date.)
Thats awsome!
The original drama was pretty funny.
“I’ll Come With The Rain” sounds like it’s going to be really good, the title itself is cool. Hopefully it’s not a let down. Do you know if the film is going to have a wide release?
