I Am Robot And Proud’s thrid album The Electricity In Your Wants To Sing is a fine example of how human good electronic music can sound. The band is actually a one man band, Shaw-Han Liem, hailing from Toronto Canada. I think it may be something with the cold weather keeping people indoors with their laptops, but the best knob twisters always seem to come from cold area regions. The sound of Electricity In Your House Wants To Sing is warm, sparkly, twinkly electronica, no clicks or glitches found on the album. You will hear the occasional paino, flute, sax, acoustic guitar all mixed in brilliantly with his electronic sounds. Simply awesome collection of songs and sounds that always evokes a feeling of calm beauty, beguiling if you will. A few songs that deviate from that motif would be “A Man That Runs Too Fast” which is more uptempo and has a heavier beat. It’s only been a week but that song will remind me of Royksopp. “Neil Lake” features some fine acoustic guitars starting the song off and the song evntually builds up with a lot of evocative samples. Highlights to be found on the album are everywhere but two songs I find particularly sick (in the best way possible) is “The Work” and “Me Vs. Hedi.” “Good Sleep” would be another one of the highlights on the album. Just has one of those dreamy slow beginnings that sparkles with a few keyboard lines, while bass and beats kick in every now and then. Sweet. For the people that feel stressed out all the time, lay off the prozac and get I Am Robot’s The Electricity In Your House Wants To Sing instead. Should work wonders. Up there with Nathan Fake and Dextro for electronic album of the year.
