lp6-logo.jpgEnd of the year, snow bells are ringing are you glistening and so it is time. Last year we didn’t put up a year end best of list, simply because there’s already a list of rated albums on the sidebar, but this time around I thought why not? After time opinions do change so a year end list would make for a fun read (I hope). Not only are there year end lists from yours truly and MikeSpiegs, we asked some of our past interviewees to send in their list as well! So below you’ll find list of favorite albums from Erika Forster (Au Revoir Simone), Traceyann Campbell (Camera Obscura), Johan Angergård (Club 8), Britta Phillips (Dean & Britta), David Best (Fujiya & Miyagi), Emanuel Lundgren (I’m From Barcelona), Adam Olenius (Shout Out Louds) and Markland Starkie (Sleeping States).

luna6’s Top 10 Albums of 2007:

feist.jpg1. Feist – The Reminder (Feist does it all on the Reminder)

clientele-save.jpg2. The Clientele – God Save The Clientele (Definitely would be the surprise album of the year for me. The Clientele playing bright, upbeat music? And it works!)

takenbytrees.jpg3. Taken By Trees – Open Field (Singular album for singular moments of solitude)

earip.jpg4. Earip – Someone’s Bonfire (A friend stayed over at my place after breaking up with her boyfriend of 3 years. She was napping on my couch and I was doing something on the computer, while playing Earip’s album. The song “A Question Mark” then came on. I then started to hear some strange sounds coming from behind me, so I turned around to find my friend bawling like a baby! I reminded myself don’t play that song around anyone that’s going through a breakup.)

pandabear.jpg5. Panda Bear – Person Pitch (Perfect combination of out of this world bizarro sounds and delicious pop harmonies).

tunng-goodarrows_large.jpg6. Tunng – Good Arrows (Amazing album that gets better with time.)

sleepingstatesalbum.jpg7. Sleeping States – There the Open Spaces (Songs are just so pretty.)

windmill-coverthumbnail.jpg8. Windmill – Puddle City Racing Lights (Amazing songs, amazing album.)

national-boxer.jpg9. The National – Boxer (A few tracks I don’t care for on the second half, but the good ones reverberate inside and out.)

shoutoutloudsourillwills.jpg10. Shout Out Louds – Our Ill Wills (When in need for a pop fix – this does it.)

MikeSpiegs’ Top 10 Albums of 2007:

lovekins.jpg1. The Lovekevins – Vs. The Snow (Yeah, it’s an odd number one but it’s been a pretty bland year for me as far as music is concerned. Lovekevins are from Sweden (named after a Wedding Present song) and put out a great electronic pop record this year. After their previous singles I anticipated this album for a while and although it’s a lot different than their previous stuff, it is insanely catchy and fun to listen to.)

jenslekmen.jpg2. Jens Lekman – Night Falls Over Kortedela (Maybe not as good as it could of been, but Jens still rocks the house with his brand of Jonathan Richman/Stephen Merritt/Morrissey + shitload of samples.)

applesinstero.jpg3. Apples in Stereo – New Magnetic Wonder (Apples have never put out a shitty album and this is no exception. A lot of people are “over” them but I can never get past them. Although the electronic interludes on this album are pretty lame, the actual song songs rule.)

badnofhorses-ceasetobegin.jpg4. Band of Horses – Cease to Begin (This is the record The Shins should have put out this year and yeah, it’s nothing really special or unique or innovative but it’s really good.)

the-pains-of-being-pure-at-heart.jpg5. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – EP (If this wasn’t an EP it would have been number one. Great pop in the vein of Sarah Records/C86/Jesus and Mary Chain/etc.)

elliottsmithnewmoon.jpg6. Elliott Smith – New Moon (Sure, it’s not really a “new” album and most of the songs on it were floating around on bootlegs available pre-2007 but most of the songs on this album are more powerful then ‘Basement on a Hill’. Maybe I’m biased in the way that i’ve always been in love with his more minimal efforts (Self Titled, Either/Or) opposed to his later stuff..)

windmill-coverthumbnail.jpg7. Windmill – Puddle City Racing Lights (Never heard of them/him until this year and like it… a lot. Again, nothing really special or innovative but a fun listen.)

cocorosi3-advghst.jpg8. CocoRosie – The Adventures of Ghosthorse & Stillborn (These bitches is crazy. “Rainbow Warriors”… what the fuck? I may not get it, but I love it.)

tenderforeverwider.jpg9. Tender Forever – Wider (I’m a sucker for this electro indie pop bullshit. It’s bullshit and I know it is but I don’t care because I like it.)

shockingpinks.jpg10. Shocking Pinks – Shocking Pinks (It’s cheating putting this in a top 10 as it’s a compilation of tracks off their first two albums (both of which are amazing) and while they’re new to most I have no problem including a “Greatest Hits” this year. In my opinion Shocking Pinks has the best elements spanning some of my favorite aesthetics: Noisey, Poppy, Dancey. They better not slip up with a shit album in 2008!)
