Country : South Korea
Release Date : October 13, 2001
Director : Jae-Eun Jeong

Plot Synopsis : 3 female friends (in addition to two charming twin sisters as supporting characters) graduate from high school, now it is time to move into the real world. Each of the girls have different problems, but ultimately seek the same thing, happiness. “Hye-ju” is the beautiful, perhaps shallow, girl seeking to become successful in the coporate world. “Tae-hie” is the dreamer, who is a typist for a handicapped poet and worker in a family owned “coal bathhouse,” who is always dreaming of whats life like on the other side. “Ji-young” is the very artistically talented girl, who struggles to maintain parity with her friends, because she lives with her extremely poor grandparents.

Movie Review : If you need a constant supply of bullets, knives, blood, & sex skip this film. If you are interested in experiencing what 3 girls experience moving from the security of an all girl high school to the reality of adult life, then by all means check this film out. Another aspect I found intriguing was to find a film depicting the lives of regular young people in Korea. This is another film I randomly lucked into, without knowing anything about the film. From the dreamy minimalist techno song introduced in the beginning of the film, to the inventive way the director used text messages, being sent by the girls, flashing across the screen, like cnn news headlines, gave me clues that this might not be your typical film, but something really special. Well once you are introduced to the charming precociousness of the 3 main girls, you will be pretty much held to the whims of this film. Kudos to the director for having the vision to make this amazing film. On a micro level, this is a fascinating film depicting the lives of 3 “common” Korean kids and on a macro level I think everyone (including guys) can relate with the dreams of teenage kids wanting to achieve their dreams and the problems that stand in the way of that pursuit.

Thanks. I would recommend you keep a look out for “Linda Linda Linda” I would guess you may really enjoy that one as well.
I actually came across this DVD at my local Tower Video store. I remember reading about it here and thought what the heck it’s only $19.99. Watched it last night with the girlfriend and we loved it! Great script, wonderful acting by all the leads, nice soundtrack as well. Also, that coal sauna was something I have never heard of before but would like to try out if given the opportunity. Sweet film, highly recommended. Keep the great reviews coming.
